San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Presents Love to Learn: The Art of Block Printing
The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts will host three Love to Learn classes in the first quarter of 2024. These classes will feature a special, hands-on, skill taught by prominent instructors and artists.
Love to Learn: The Art of Block Printing with Becky Templeton Strout will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2024 during two classes, 9 – 11 a.m. or 2 – 4 p.m., in Gallery Verde located at 417 S. Oakes Street. Refreshments and take-home supplies will be provided.
Block printing is the process of printing designs carved into blocks made of wood or linoleum. In this quick study, we will scan our own environment for meaningful design elements and quickly carve rubber reusable printing blocks to be used for making luscious, patterned papers that can be framed, used for wrapping paper, stationary, collage and more. The resulting designs will capture an artful expression of your world in the style and rich tradition of ancient Indian or Chinese prints. Every student will leave with his/her own blocks and tools to continue the playful exploration with block printing at home.
Becky Templeton Strout: “I am an observer of life and the inherent artful nature of things. I grew up with a painter mother who was in her studio daily and valued my eye and critique of her work since I was a young child. As an adult, I have enjoyed painting, graphic arts, interior design, photography, and sculpture.”
